Reliance Jio has become the market leader this year with an increase of over one crore subscribers, more than 80 crore subscribers of Vodafone Idea

Reliance Jio has added 89.90 million (about 90 million) new wireless subscribers in 2019. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released a new annual report for 2019 titled ‘Annual Performance Indicators of Indian Telecom Sector’. The report shows the increase and decrease in the number of subscribers of telecom providers on an annual basis.

Became the market leader with 32.14% share in terms of wireless subscribers
According to the report, Reliance Jio's total wireless subscribers increased to 370.20 million in December 2019 from 280.12 million in December 2018. Reliance Jio has become the market leader by the end of 2019 with 32.14% market share in terms of wireless telephone subscriber base.

Vodafone lost millions of wireless subscribers through Idea and Airtel
While Reliance Jio gained a bumper lead in 2019, Vodafone lost millions of wireless subscribers through Idea and Airtel. According to a TRAI report, Vodafone Idea lost 86.13 million subscribers in 2019 and Airtel 12.96 million. Vodafone Idea had 418.75 million subscribers in December 2018, down from 332.61 million in December 2019. The company's market share fell to 35.81 per cent from 28.89 per cent. Airtel also lost its customers this year but not as much as Vodafone Idea. The company had 340.26 million subscribers in December 2018 which has come down to 327.30 million in December, 2018. Airtel's market share also declined slightly from 28.93 per cent to 28.43 per cent. State-owned telecom company BSNL added 3.74 million subscribers last year. In December 2018, BSNL had 114.72 million subscribers which increased to 118.12 million in December 2019. At the end of last year, BSNL had a market share of 10.26 per cent.
