At the same time, the transport minister said that in the coming days, he will be able to choose from ethanol at will.

Meanwhile, Nitin Gadkari pointed out the need to make ethanol from grains. He said there is a lot of potential to make ethanol in sugarcane. To encourage alternative fuels, the government has also decided to allow automakers to install their own fuel pumps, Gadkari said, adding that carmakers could easily build flex engines similar to those in Brazil, the USA and Canada. Gadkari said crude oil imports would be slashed by Rs 7 lakh crore to make India a hub for the automobile industry and to promote alternative fuels.
